Happy New Year

I apologize for my photos, it was rainy and cloudy here yesterday and this is the best I could do.

Hello, Happy New Year to you! I hope you had a wonderful Holiday Season and are eager and excited to get back to crafting, or perhaps you never stopped. Since it’s January 1st you know it’s time for the next Hues of Colors over at Color Hues. I am the hostess for this challenge, and not only do we have a great color pairing to start the New Year, we also have 3 new Design Team Members joining our team. I have been keeping this secret for far too long and am tickled to finally be able to share the exciting news.

Please come by the blog and help welcome; Stef Perry, Jules Peddicord, and Marcia Hill to the team. I am pretty sure that these ladies need no introduction as they are active participants in our challenge and in blogland itself.

I took another photo this morning and it’s a tad better!

Now onto my Card Details: I just love this Parcel and Post Die set from Spellbinders and I couldn’t wait to use it again. The background looks like foil but is actually a piece of DSP that I found in my stash. The sentiment is foiled and is called the All Occasion Mailbox Greetings, also from Spellbinders. I used some gold mirrored paper to tie the card together. These dies are still on sale if your interested to adding them to your collection.

Personal News: I could write many pages about what life has been like the past 6 weeks, but let me just say….that my sweet father is finally at peace. For 31 days we all took turns sitting by his side, and each time you would leave you would say goodbye just in case it was your last. My dad waited till the day after Christmas to meet up with my mom once again. Rest in peace my strong and supportive father. You did so much for me, my immediate family, and my extended family over the years and it’s time for you to rest. For those of you that don’t know, I have been my father’s primary caretaker for the past 7 years, even when I was working full time, and right now, I can’t imagine my life without him.

Dad, I will miss you terribly. It was an honor having your funeral service in my backyard. I hope you felt it was beautiful and perfectly simple like you requested. Give mom a kiss for me.

Take care, Nanc’

  1. What a beautiful tribute to your father, Nancy! I know how long and hard this last month has been for you, and I hope your memories help sustain you through the days ahead. I love your color choices for this month, and the mailbox is so festive dressed up in gold with all those pretty pink and gold florals. That die has sat on my desk for two months, and never did get any use. Top on my list once I get back to New York and have some crafting time! Best wishes for a wonderful and healthy New Year!

  2. I’m betting there was a particularly wonderful celebration in Heaven this New Year’s, Nancy. God love you for keeping such wonderful care of your dad all these years. I know it was difficult at times, but I know first-hand you’ll never regret one minute of it.
I’m one of the lucky ones that has actually been in your lovely back yard – what a sweet way to say goodbye to your dad – and may I say you look very much like your mom!
A darling use of this month’s colors, my friend! Love gold with pink! And congrats to your three wonderful new team members!
    Biggest hugs,
    Michele

  3. Happy new year, Nancy. I know how hard it has been for you and you will be rewarded for your faithfulness in caring for your Dad. What a wonderful way to celebrate a life well lived with family and friends in your yard.
I have a number of cards waiting for a sunny day to take pictures. Your card is so festive with all the gold confetti and little love notes.

  4. The celebration of your Dad’s life in your yard was such a cool idea, you’ll have very fond memories for sure.
Your card is fab, it shouts party time. Wishing you both health and happiness in the new year ahead. 🙂

  5. I hope the wonderful memories will sustain you in the coming days. A beautiful tribute to you dad. Thanks for sharing.

  6. A lovely tribute to your Dad, Nancy and a wonderful way to commemorate his life in your beautiful backyard celebration.

I so feel your angst about photos with metallic cardstock, but you still managed to capture the fun, festive look and feel of your pretty birthday card! Love it! Thanks for the warm welcome, I’m so thrilled to be joining this team!

  7. May God bless you, Nancy for being their to care for your father, sit by his side in his final days and give him that beautiful memorial service from your home. I hope you find peace in the days ahead.

Your card is beautiful. I love the burst of flowers coming from the mailbox! Congrats on your new DT members!

  8. I love the picture of your mom and dad Nancy, and while I do see your mom in you, I definitely see your dad too…especially through the eyes! It’s so hard to say goodbye to our parents, isn’t it?! You think you’re prepared, but when it comes right down to it, we never are! Time will dull the pain and grief, and hopefully card making will help to keep your spirits up! And your card is wonderful Nancy with all the gold and sparkle and shine! I love this parcel and post die set too (in fact you will see it again soon!) and the pinks and gold definitely make this a celebratory card! Thank you again for the opportunity to play alongside you and the rest of the team at Color Hues…I am so looking forward to this next year and beyond! Hugs. :0)

  9. Your card is striking, Nancy, but your tribute to your dad was so sweet and thoughtful. I know how long you have been caring for him, so a huge void will be missing in your life for awhile, but you have so many memories of being with him and sharing your life the last 7 years especially, hold them close to your heart.

  10. Visiting your blog to praise your stunning card, I came to the passing of your father. What a lovely tribute! Your words and faith touched my heart! Blessings, Nancy, to you and your family!

  11. Nancy, I can’t express how sad I am at your loss. I know you loved him and cared for him dearly, and your tribute here is beautifully written. May you find comfort and strength in each new day. Your card is just beautiful and our colors make this so festive!

  12. Sending more hugs your way. Your card is absolutely stunning! Say what you will…..but I need to up my game. LOL!

  13. Nancy, your tribute to your dad is so genuine and heart-warming. I second Michele’s comment – that there was great rejoicing in Heaven with your mom and dad reunited. I knew you were your dad’s care-giver, but didn’t realize being so spanned seven years. You are a precious, remarkable daughter; a treasure to your parents and to all of us who have the honour of calling you ‘friend.’ You will miss your dad deeply for a long time to come – and that’s because of the depth of your love for him. My dad passed away 8 years ago on my parents’ 56th wedding anniversary (such a hard time to remember) and every morning, I light a candle, open up his photo on my laptop, get a cup of coffee and…we “chat”. Of course, I do all the talking. Best way to start my day…coffee, light and, most of all, my dad!

Your mailbox card is ohmystars gorgeous! What a wonderful choice of images for this pretty colour combination. Love it!
    Hugs and love,
    ~carol

  14. Hi Nancy. Just popping in to tell you that you are still in my thoughts. You’ve been through a difficult time and I’m sending you a long distance hug!
Love your card and the colors you picked !

  15. Nancy, I am sending you my most heartfelt sympathies for the loss of your father! 2022 was not a great year simply because there was too much loss of friends and family! I’m sure that the reception in your backyard was just perfect for your dad! I hope he is with your mom–sending so much love!
Your card is simply perfect I don’t have that mailbox die but it is so lovely with all the gold accents–beautiful! xo
