Color my world with family, friends and some time to be creative making cards!

Handmade for You

Hello friends, I am back today with my 3rd card using this fun new set from Simon Hurley and Spellbinders. This time I decided to use just the rose stamp in the set and try my hand at watercolor- the cheaters’ way. What is the cheaters’ way…you might ask? In my opinion, it’s when you heat emboss the image so that it makes it easier to color inside the lines. It’s the only way you will see me doing it, that is for certain! I must say that I totally enjoyed the process. I know it has flaws and some of the shading is probably in the wrong place because of the light source…blah blah blah…but to me, worrying about all of that takes the joy away. I just wanted to relax and enjoy the process and that is what I did.

After I was done with the water coloring, I couldn’t decide on what I wanted to do for the background. Hubby suggested I used the foil plate-Sealed Geometric Flowers, he really thinks it’s awesome, and so do I. Now that it’s on the background, do you think it’s too busy? I am on the fence. The foiled Handmade For You greeting is from Spellbinders as well. I have links for you below. I decided to take this photo outside in the sun in front of my Florida Flame Vine and see if I could capture the foil a bit better.

  1. Very pretty. I love your watercolored roses and the background looks great with them. TFS

  2. I wouldn’t call that cheating at all, Nancy! Lots of watercolor artists start out by pencil drawing their images. Your shadows and highlights are looking fantastic!
    Gorgeous card!

  3. Just GORGEOUS!!! I’m all about cheating when I can….lol. You have really nailed the technique, it’s simply stunning. That background is perfect and really makes those beautiful flowers pop. FABULOUS, my friend!!

  4. Not too busy at all, Nancy! The pink mat you added helps to balance everything out beautifully. Your watercoloring looks great to me and I don’t think you cheated one bit! Incredible card!

  5. Not cheating at all to use heat embossing Nancy, it’s smart! And your shading looks fabulous! When you’re enjoying the process, that’s all that matters and it shows through with your beautiful results.

  6. What! Not cheating! Your watercolor roses are fantastic and I am so glad that you had fun in the process. It is about time you had fun. Your card is fab and I am impressed with your photography too.
