Tropical Birthday

Hello, We have a fun topping starting over at STB today.  The topping Is TROPICAL.  I think right about now we all wish we were trapped on a tropical island somewhere, maybe holding some type of cocktail with an umbrella in it and are biggest thought being… did I use enough sunscreen?  So I guess, we will all just have to be inspired by the dream right about now and you will have to show us your tropical paradise in a card form.  I am not denying that I do realize I already live in paradise, but I will say that our palm trees don’t come in those fun patterned papers. LOL

Now as for today’s card details:  A few days ago I mentioned that I made some card backgrounds using Gesso and I was trying to make some CAS cards and ended up with lots and lots of layers.  Well, this was the card I was speaking of. The water was made with a brand new stencil (from Taylored Expressions) that I just received some Gesso and Oxide Inks. The sun is a die from Lawn Fawn, the sentiment is Verve and the rest is from MFT.  The clouds are done with an MFT stencil as well.  The palm fronds were made with some Gina K designer paper that is so old but still one of my favorite patterns ever.

I am linking my card up over at two additional challenge sites;  The first one being- Time Out Challenges where the word Is Free.  If a tropical paradise doesn’t make you free of all your worries I don’t know what else would!  The second challenge Is over at the Tic Tac Toe Challenge where I have selected the center row of Blue, Square, and Outdoors.  The other two are obvious but I have a square pattern on my sun in case you were wondering.

Please come on over to Seize the Birthday and join us! The design team and our guest Jo did a great job with our topping, plus we would love to have you!

Stay well, Nanc’

Hello Sunshine

Hello,  Today’s CAS card is the third attempt at an entry for the CAS Mix Up challenge.  The other two cards ( that I like better) ended up with so many added elements and layers that they were no way going to fit in those guidelines of CAS anymore.  All is good, as I know I will use them for upcoming challenges for Seize the Birthday…so time well spent.  CAS is so hard for me… am I alone?  Over at CAS Mix it up they want us to use Gesso on our project. I started off by getting out many different stencils and made quite a few backgrounds for future use. It is a fun process.  Below is my panel I chose for this card, before I added Oxide ink.  Everything I used is from MFT except the sentiment is Verve!  I am really enjoying this die cut palm tree a lot! My other choice option for this challenge was die-cuts.

Thanks for the visit, Nanc’

Another Mixed Media Challenge…

IMG_0001_2

Hello Friends,

Taking photos of my step by step process is not my forte,

I always seem to forget and then it’s to late!

So here are just a few!

collage

Just some of the Details:

Took SU Wisteria Wonder to a piece of card stock.

Applied Gesso over top with a feather brush.

Took my butterfly stamp and stamped it with Grey and purple ink….to give a shadow effect.

Added some more stamps to the background.

Took white paint and stamped my leaves.

Went back with my Spectrum Noir pen and added some detail to the leaves and all over the card.

Came back with some lime green Color Box ink and added some distressing all over.

Painted and used glitter on some wooden hearts and painted the green flower too.

Love my SU distressing tool….I have been tearing it up lately!!!! LOL

The sentiment is SU.

Mixed Media…Yikes

Hello Friends,

Boy did I have a good time creating this card for you today.

It just so happens to be our technique challenge that Marisa

enticed us with this week over at Just Us Girls.

Mixed Media..Here is a link.

I was so scared at first to dive in and then when I got started I absolutely loved it!

Thanks Marisa for getting me out of my comfort zone.  There has been

a lot of that lately over at the JUGS..and I sure am loving it.

We all need to stretch our imagination and creativity once in a while….

don’t ya think?

Okay here are a few additional photos of me in action so you can kind of

see the steps I took to begin…they aren’t the best! Don’t judge…lol

First, I took my ink and put it directly on my plexiglass surface that covers my work area.

Then I took my glossy card stock and stuck it in it…randomly.

(You do not have to use glossy CS.)

I added more ink as I went.

This is where your creativity can just run wild.

Next, I applied Gesso  or white acrylic paint) to the paper

using a feather paintbrush.  I did this a couple of times.

I loved how it started looking like woodgrain so I went for that look!
IMG_0004

I forgot to take photos of me stamping randomly all over the paper,

but I think you get the idea….and this is what my scrap paper looked

like when I was done.  I would try a stamp on there before I used it on

the real thing.  Sometimes I would stamp off so that the image would

look more muted too.

If you are wondering what is under my plexi glass…it’s random letters

notes, poems, drawings, and mother’s day cards that I received from either

my hubby or son over the years.  I love it!  Makes me Happy!

Well,  I hope I have intrigued you enough to play along.

Also,  Before you go, I am linking this up with the Pink Elephant

challenge to use Woodgrain….see why I went with that look. lol

All my talented teammates over at Just Us Girls did a wonderful job with this

technique so here are links to their blogs, so you can leave them some love along the way!

Hope you have a fantastic creative weekend and get wild with it!

I think this post is long enough, so if you need anymore details
give me a shout out!  I did use a blast from the past with this card-
Letter rub-ons!  I use to use them all the time!  Love it!
