I have 2 posts going live at the same time this morning-please scroll down if you were looking for my Coffee Card for the Coffee Loving Cardmakers Blog.
Hello, It’s the middle of June, and time for the next Hues of Colors at Color Hues. Karen is our wonderful hostess and she chose a color pairing of Yellow and Green. I know the gallery will be full this time around because I know very few card makers that would be opposed to this pairing. I loved it so much that I decided to make two cards.
I adore orchids and in fact, have three of my own. When we had my father’s funeral at my house this past December we had 4 orchids on the table representing each one of his children. Two were yellow and the other two were white. I wanted to keep one of the yellow ones but my sisters both wanted yellow ones, so I let them have them. Sigh! I can’t believe he has been gone nearly 6 months already. Some days it seems like yesterday.
*I know the centers of my orchids should have a lot more color but to not break the rules at Color Hues I had to just use a smidgen of a deep reddish brown Copic.
Card 2
I am linking my card up over at the Flower Challenge because as I mentioned above they remind me of my father and my mom for that matter as they had a few when I was younger growing out of a tree in the backyard. (Not sure what happened to them.) So they are definitely one of my favorite flowers.
Card Details: I used the smooshing technique on watercolored paper for my flower and stem/leaves. The Orchid dies are from Waffle Flower (borrowed from a friend). Elliptical ovals from Spellbinders are a must-have in my opinion. The brick wall stencil is from MFT, the small greeting is from the Simon Hurley-Butterly Reflections stamp set, and the large greeting is from the SSS-Leafy Frames stamp set. I used my favorite Dew drops from Honey Bee Stamps on both cards.
I also want to note that we have Michele Ferguson joining us over at Color Hues as our guest and we are very happy to have her with us again. Michele is a staple at CH and we certainly appreciate her.
Take care and I certainly hope you will pop on over to Color Hues and check out my fabulous teammate’s cards along with Micheles and join us!

Two pretty cards and such a lovely memory of your Mom and Dad, Nancy. My daughter bought me one for Mother’s Day this year and so far I have managed to keep it going, unlike on previous occasions! 🙂

Your orchids are lovely, Nancy. I had one once that I could’t make last. Wouldn’t you know that I have made two yellow and green cards for previous challenges. I guess I’ll be making a third.

Oops. Forgot to thank you for sharing your orchids with us at The Flower Challenge.

Nancy, I can hardly believe it is six months – don’t blink, my friend the years of missing them fly by!
I adore your yellow orchids! I didn’t even know you could find yellow orchids for real – I hope you treat yourself to one soon!
Thanks for having me as a guest again – always an honor, and pleasure to play cards with you CH girls! x

I agree with Michele, Nancy, you should have a yellow orchid! You’ve inspired me with this stunner to look them up! I love the bright color you achieved by smooshing for the flower and leaves. Is it watercolor paper? Two gorgeous cards, my friend!

Yes watercolored paper, thanks for asking as I added that info to my post! Thanks for your kind words!

Your orchids are amazing, I love them. Both cards are equally lovely xx

I fell in love with your orchids the minute I saw them! They are lovely on both cards. I’ve had limited success with orchids. You definitely should treat yourself to a yellow orchid. The only ones I’ve ever seen were at orchid shows–most recently at the Phipps Conservatory. The ones readily available here are usually white or pink.

Thanks Karen. Yellow Orchids are not hard to find around here and perhaps I will get another one sometime soon.

Both of your cards are absolutely BEAUTIFUL Nancy! I didn’t even know orchids came in yellow, but yours are just delightful! And I agree that you should have one of your own…treat yourself…such a wonderful way to remember your dad!! My dad wasn’t much of a flower guy, but he did love tulips, and since I can’t grow them here (the rabbits eat them every year before they bloom!! Grrrrr!!!!), I always make sure I get a tulip plant for the house in March to remember him by. Hugs. :0)

Lovely, lovely orchids, Nancy and ink smooshing was the perfect way to get such bright and textured results. I love both designs, especially the heart with brick stenciling! I’m so glad you shared over at The Flower Challenge as well, they will be a gorgeous addition to the gallery!

The petals of the yellow orchids got a realistic look by the ink smooshing! They are beautiful and your card designs are so clean and elegant! Hope you’re doing well, Nancy 💗!

Echoing the others: your orchid cards are gorgeous and definitely infused with love. I think you should have a yellow real life orchid as well; it will be a wonderful companion for your white one.

Such a gorgeous card Nancy, loving your yellow orchids, in fact I have one in my kitchen flowering now and it looks so unusual in the yellow colour. Thanks for sharing with us over at ‘The Flower Challenge’ 😉 Viv DT xx

wow! I didn’t realize you were an overachiever two-fer today until I scrolled down. These are just lovely. I am really drawn to the scalloped ovals on the first one and really loving the gray brick on the second one. This week marks the one year point with Dad’s passing and it’s been a bit rough around here. Hugs to you…but you totally should have claimed a yellow one for yourself. Just sayin….LOL!
