Embossing Way Back When!

DSC_0228STB ToppingsHello Friends, I have a card and a little embossing story for you!  Before I head over to my Throwback Thursday,  it’s time for another Challenge over at Seize the Birthday. This time around our topping is Embossing.  You may use any type of embossing you like, Dry with and embossing folder, Heat embossing with versa mark and a heat gun, or any other type of embossing that I haven’t mentioned. Speaking of any other type….. My hubby before I got into card making myself, use to make his own thank you cards using an embossing technique of his own. He would dampen a piece of watercolored paper by sticking it in a sink full of water, then he would pull it out to dry on a towel to where it was damp and no longer dripping. Then he would take the paper and lay it over the stencil (that he made) and press ever so slightly through the stencil as to make a raised impression using the back nub of a paintbrush. He made some cards with the sentiment raised on the outside front of the card, sometimes he would do the opposite and have the impression going inwards on the front of the card.  When it came time for our wedding invitations, we were frugal okay poor, we decided to make our own Wedding invitations with this embossing technique.  Okay, don’t laugh, back then we sure thought they looked awesome.  We were getting married at the beach at 9 AM on a Sunday on the deck of a restaurant that was owned by a family member to my boss at the time.  So we decided to have the invitation mimic what it would actually look like where we would be standing at the time of the wedding.  You will see what I mean in the photos below.  Sorry for the quality of the photos I was to lazy to take them out of the scrapbooks and they have page protectors over them as well.  Even the inside response card had a bit of embossing on it as well.DSC_0232

See how the card looks like the photo.

The wavy line was suppose to be the tide rolling in…lol

My dress was hand made by a friend of mine! I thought it needed to be a little less formal

since it was after all 9AM.

DSC_0233I so appreciate you sticking with me down memory lane.  By the way, hubby and I have been married for 23 years now to put the photos into perspective.

VLVJul15Week3SketchI am also linking my card up to the Viva la Verve week 3 sketch where all my inspiration began.!  I thought this sketch was awesome! If you haven’t noticed I really adore the Poppy Birthday  Set from Verve and I also have been kinda enjoying doing some heat embossing with some ink resist over top.  I think this is my 3rd card as of late with this technique.  So, So Fun! The Chevron piece across the top was made with some Washi tape and my SU Envelop Punch Board.  I don’t use this tool enough.  The base was started out on a piece of white card stock and I used 2 SU inks to blend together to get the results I was happy with.   Any other questions just let me know.

Take care and see you soon! Nanc’

Sensational Stripes at The Verve Blog

DSC_0221

Jul15DIHGraphicHello Friends,  It has been doing nothing but rain here in sunny Florida for the last few days and I took advantage of the time indoors to play along with the Sensational Stripes Verve Challenge over at The Verve Blog.  Before I got started, I had my thoughts on my son who was on a 65 ft sailboat in the gulf of Mexico (yes during the deluge of rain) over the weekend, so I embraced my thoughts and decided to get out the sailboat from the Verve Stamp set With Love and create a water scene, as I worried. The colors were inspired by the graphic you will see to the left. I paper pieced the sailboat and used my Creative Memories wavy cutter to make the water I mean Stripes!  The clouds and sun is from Lawn Fawn and the birthday sentiment is also Verve from the Poppy Birthday set.

Hope you like my card half as much as I loved creating it!  Take care,   Nanc’

BTW…Ty made it home safe and he informed me I worried for nothing.  What does he know about being a mom! LOL

Photo Inspired…

DSC_0217

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 4.28.58 PMThese Saturdays sure come and go rather quickly which isn’t a good thing ya’ll, as that means that 3 word phrase is just around the corner.  I have already limited my television watching as I don’t want to see all the adds we are about to get pushed in our face as a constant reminder.  If you haven’t figured out what those 3 words are yet, well I am not going to type them all, but I will give you a hint…starts with Back.  Okay, let’s change the subject and talk about something Happy!  Over at Just Us Girls this week, it’s Inspiration Week and have we got a beautiful one for you.  Don’t you just wish you were sitting on that beautiful porch right now? Well I certainly do.  Instead, I am sitting inside the house as it is 90 degrees outside and it’s not even noon.  I am not enjoying this summer as much as I should be this year.  The heat is getting to be a little much for this old girl I guess.

Today’s card was quick and fun to put together.  I was inspired right away by that  awesome blue rug in the photo.  I am not a huge orange girl, but since it was so evident in the photo, I thought I would embrace it instead of fight it and it worked out just fine.  I think the card is pretty much easy to figure out.

Hope you come on over to JUGS and see what all the ladies have been up to, and who knows you may be chosen as a Guest Designer in the future if you play along.  Stay cool, Nanc’

A Note to Say…

ModSquadLogoStopping in today with a quick card that I made for the Mod Squad butterfly challenge that my friend Judy is hosting. I needed a quick feminine thank you card and I knew the Stippled Blossom set from SU was sure to do the trick!   I paired that gorgeous flower with some butterflies from SU as well.  I decided to make some banners for the corner and finish it off with a perfect sentiment from Verve!  Any questions let me know! Enjoy your day! Nanc’

A Colorful Birthday!

DSC_0191 (1)Hello Friends,  We have gotten into a rainy pattern over the last few days here in sunny Florida, which is not a bad thing as we really needed it.  Plus it gave me a great reason to head into my studio and play a little.  A good friend of mine is hosting this week’s MIUM challenge over at Stamp TV, and I didn’t want to miss out.  I paired her great challenge of masking up with this wonderful sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches.  I love starting my creativity with a sketch it really gives me that push I need to get my juices flowing.  I then stumbled upon this great new challenge site called CAS-ual Chic.  It is a sister challenge of the popular Casual Fridays Challenge.  Over there they are encouraging us to use layers  The UAL in CASUAL stands for Utterly Adorable Layers.  Isn’t that cool!  This week they also want us to use embossing, so I jumped right on board.  I really had quite a difficult time getting this photo to come out well. Every time I took it in doors it looked washed out and you couldn’t even see the vellum leaves or the intensity of the inks I used.  So I waited till dusk and that seemed to help quite a bit.  I just wanted to explain why the photo is so dark.  I can’t tell you how fun this card was to make!  I had to mask multiple butterflies at once to get the effect I was looking for.  I really, really love this masking technique!  Then you pair it with Emboss Resist and WOW!  Thanks sooooooo much Barbara!  I had so much fun I went ahead and made two cards, but you will see that one in a few weeks.

Here is a little card info:   I heat embossed with white embossing powder. The stamps are from Gina K-Take Flight and Happy Birthday Duo.  I also used my Sizzix leaves die with vellum.  Love that look!!  The inks are a little bit of Momento and TH distressed inks.

I so appreciate you coming by today!  I Enjoyed myself I hope you did too!  Nanc’

I Got a Little Feeling…

DSC_0125

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 4.23.39 PMHello Friends,   It’s time for a super fun Color Week over at Just Us Girls and Sharyn has picked a great group of colors which is sure to spark some Mojo!  I can’t take credit for this awesome card, I CASED my SU demonstrator Debbie for this one! I just love this image, don’t you?  I have another non typical standard fold for you…not sure the technical term for this one…It might be a gate fold, now that I think about it.  In order for this card to open correctly you only adhere the top piece to the one side of the fold.  I have a photo below that might help with what I am trying to convey.  Almost all product is Stampin Up except for the rectangle stitched die. On this card, I chose to use all 5 of the colors, but feel free to only use 3 if you like!  Remember, if your chosen as our Chic of the week you maybe one of our JUGS Guest Designers in the future. Hope to see you in the gallery!  Take care,  Nancy

STB Anything GoesVLVJul15Week1SketchHello Friends,  It’s time for a new challenge over at Seize the Birthday!  We have NO topping this time around, so all you need to do is make a Birthday card and or project!  You can never have to many Birthday cards lying around, so I hope you join me and my wonderful teammates!  If these colors on my card look vaguely familiar to you, then I am here to tell you that your not crazy!  I posted a card a about a week ago with these exact papers, I loved the results so much, that I couldn’t wait to try it again! I am pleased as punch once again with the results!!  I think it all has to do with the great Verve stamps I used, along with the fun Viva La Verve sketch that was my starting point!  The stamps are from the Verve- Poppy Birthday Set.  I heat embossed my sentiment and used a white gel pen to add some dots and lines on my poppies and leaves.  The vertical circle edge die is also from Verve and is in that 3 Set die– cut pack that I am always raving about. I have all things Verve linked up for you!!  The decorative circle die is from Spellbinders and it is also something I adore using!  Any other questions, please ask.

I wanted to take a minute and tell you my followers, my quiet behind the scene stalkers ( don’t worry I am one of them too), and my dear friends (old and new) that leave me such wonderful comments, how much I REALLY appreciate it!  It warms my heart each and everyday and I am forever grateful!  I just realized the other day, as I was looking through some stats, that I have reached 775 posts!  I couldn’t believe it myself!  I think I see a milestone giveaway coming up in the future!!  Much love and appreciation,  Nanc’

With Gratitude

DSC_0131 (3)

Hello Friends,  Before I get to telling you about today’s card I need to explain that my card photos over the next few posts maybe a little off…. as Apple decided to completely re-vamp iPhoto ( and they didn’t even clear it with me first) and now I have to re-learn the program all over again.  So bare with me for a few weeks or so.  There are some perks to the new and improved iPhoto, however I have also found some distaste.  My son says to give it time…so the verdict is out for now! With that said, the colors on my card DO indeed MATCH the color challenge I am playing with over at The Paper Players.  I just couldn’t get the grey to not look deep brown no matter what I did.  My son says also, “You know mom, I have a very easy solution…it is called Photoshop.”  Of course that is not free and very costly, so I think I will just press on and see how I can do on my own!  So imagine these colors just as the graphic below!   I also paired it up with this super fUN sketch from CAS(E) this Sketch that I couldn’t wait to tackle! The bird and sentiment is from Verve’s With Love set! There are also 5 score lines on this card as well.  3 vertically down the left side and 2 other horizontal ones at the top and bottom of the card.  If you click on the photo to enlarge it, I think that maybe you will be able to see them.  I paper pieced the bird with some real fun DP I had in my scrap stash.  I finished it up with some ink splatters in all three colors!  Boy how I love doing this!! The splat colors came out rather true to the right colors, so very strange! The square scalloped sentiment tag is raised with some pop dots!  The leaf stamps are from Cloud9 Designs.

A Bit of Gold…

DSC_0124DSC_0122

Screen Shot 2015-06-15 at 4.13.03 PMHello Friends,  It’s time again for our weekly challenge over at Just Us Girls.  I sure hope you had a chance to play along last week as we had some wonderful prizes up for grabs. Congrats to all 4 of our winners!  This week is our Trend Week and Lisa has asked us so incorporate gold onto are cards and or projects.  At first glance you may not see any gold on my card, however I have used gold stickles on both centers of my flowers in and outside the card and on the flower petals on the front.  I can’t take credit for this entire card, my fabulous SU consultant got me started and I changed it up quite a bit and added to the layout when I got home form her house. I would link up her personal blog for you, but sadly enough she doesn’t have one.  I do love this type of tri-fold card…so fun!  I wanted to show you what the card looked like when it’s closed, that is why you see my giant clothespin. All supplies are form Stampin UP except for the sunflower die (Sizzix), and the petals (MS punch).  I colored the Koala with my spectrum Noir pens and a little colored pencil to give him some fluff!  Here is a better view of the inside!

Hope to see you at JUGS!  If you when our Chic of the Week this week, you just might be our next Guest Designer for the month of September….good luck!  Nanc’

Mojo Monday!

DSC_0078

zzMojo405Hello Friends,  Happy Weekend!  Today’s card was inspired by this great sketch over at Mojo Monday!  I have been eyeing it for days and even left myself a giant note by my computer as to make sure I didn’t miss out!  I love Verve’s stamps and have been wanted to use more of this particular stamp set called Take Note then just the sentiments.  This set stays out on my creative space because it ALWAYS has what I need, when I nee it!  It also has this great strip of ABC’s both in plain text and cursive, and that great envelope, pencil and little heart too.  The star border is also from Verve and I speak of this die often as it comes in a set of 3. LOVE IT!!!  I have linked both the die and the stamp set up for you!  I also used my favorite rectangle stitched dies from MFT and a star paper punch that is as old as dirt.  The little stars on my card come from the insides of the star border die. I can’t waste those cute little stars, now can I?  The DP paper is something I have had forever…isn’t it pretty? It came in a sample pack years ago and I can’t recall who makes it!  The rest is SU.

I had the pleasure today to have lunch and go shopping with my dear friend JoAnn.  Thanks for a wonderful time my friend….so sad we forgot to take a photo! 😦  Have yourself an awesome day!  Nanc’
