Merry Ginger-mas

Hello, I hope you are having a great day and you had a nice Thanksgiving and weekend too. My son, DIL, and Grand Furbabies are here so life is perfect. All this momma needs for the Holidays is to have her family under the same roof and she is happy. We are so very lucky that they will be in town through Christmas as they are able to work remotely.

Today I am back with a card that was so much fun to make and was inspired by the talented Rachel Alvarado. You can find her card on this post HERE, on the Spellbinder’s Website. What do you think of my choice of orange for a non-traditional Christmas color? I like it more than I thought I would. Here is a close-up of my cute little Gingerbread people.

Card Details: I did not have the Santa’s Festive Crew Collection set from the October release that has the exact dies to make the Gingerbread girls. However, I looked at my Festive Ornaments Set and my Whimsical Winter Critter Collections and I knew I could make it work. That is what is so great about mixing Spellbinder’s products, they are always so compatible. The background was sponged with Oxide Inks and then splattered with white paint. I also sponged the Gingerbread girls and rosy-upped their cheeks with chalk to give them some depth and personality. Next, it was time to die-cut the rest of the pieces and assemble them. The cute greeting comes from the Dancin’ Christmas Sentiments. I used some Foam Squares for depth. I drew their smiles with a pencil.

I am playing along with the Tic Tac Toe Challenge. I played with the diagonal row of People/Critters, Free, and DSP.

Happy Wonderful Christmas and Farewell

Hello, It is Saturday and you know what that means. It is time for the next challenge at Just Us Girls, and along with that, I have some news to share. This is my last post as a member of the Just Us Girls Design Team. I want to first thank Vicki Dutcher for giving me this wonderful opportunity back in April of 2013. It has been a fabulous 10 1/2 years and something I have enjoyed being a part of. I also want to say thanks to the current and past Design Team members that I have had the opportunity to work beside. The friendships I have made along the way are truly a gift and something I will always treasure. I am not saying goodbye to card making, as this hobby brings me so much joy, and I certainly hope to be creating for many more years to come. I am just stepping back a bit to focus on my health and other opportunities.

Now let’s talk about today’s card as it’s getting a bit sappy in here.

Card Details: This card was totally inspired by this card HERE! I used a mix of products in my version. The trees and the house are from Spellbinders in the Simon’s Snow Globe Etched Dies set. The snowfall EF and greeting are from SU. As you can see I splattered the trees with white paint. I popped up the circle for added dimension. The snow hills were made with my old Creative Memories cutting system.

I hope you will join us over at Just Us Girls! The DT and our Guest Melissa did a wonderful job with this CAS challenge! Also, this is our last challenge of the year so you don’t want to miss it.

Have a wonderful day! Nanc’

Fall Items

Hello, Happy Thanksgiving to all of you out there who are celebrating today! I know the Holidays are particularly hard for so many for various reasons and my heart goes out to you. As I was preparing some of the food ahead of time yesterday, I kept thinking to myself, that even though my life has not been particularly easy the past few months, it is nothing compared to what is happening in other parts of the world. So as I celebrate with my family today (who were so sweet to make a 5-day trek across the U.S. with a new puppy and a cat to spend the Holidays with us). I am going to be extra grateful and pray for those who are alone, or are recently mourning a loved one, or can’t be with their family, and for peace for this World that I don’t recognize anymore. Tell me why can’t we all learn to love one another instead of hate?

Now let’s get on with my card!

Over at Seize the Birthday, Barb is our hostess and she has chosen Fall Items as our Topping. That can be anything from Food, Flowers, or Leaves and perhaps something else that we haven’t mentioned. As you can see, I chose flowers. We still have Loll with us as our Surprise Party Guest along with Lisa K., she was our winner using the Topping for our last challenge. Welcome, Ladies! So happy to have you designing alongside us.

*I have made a card similar to this one a few weeks ago and loved it so much I decided to make a similar one. Here is the first one.

A few Card Details: I used some DSP in the background of my wreath. I shaded the flowers and bow with blending brushes and ink and foiled the greeting. I have used clear Nuvo drops in the center of my flowers. Everything is linked for you below.

I hope you will also stop by Seize the Birthday and play along with us! This is our last challenge of the year as I like to give my team a little time off before the New Year!

Take care and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Nanc’

Snowflake Bear Ornaments

Hello friends, I have two cute little snowflake bears today using Spellbinder’s Whimsical Winter Critters Collection. Several weeks ago, I used the penguin on a card front, and I thought it would be fun to make a couple of ornaments using the bear. There is a little 3-year-old girl that Dave and I play with in our neighborhood that I think will enjoy them.

The snowflake die is from the Pop-up Snowflake collection by Bibi Cameron. The snowflakes were cut out of some DSP. I used some pink chalk and a Q-tip to rosy up their cheeks. I have three layers of paper so their snouts will be a little 3 dimensional. I used dark brown paper instead of black for their nose and eyes as that is what real Polar Bears have.

Moodboard Christmas at JUGS

Hello crafting friends, Today it’s time for Mood Board week at Just Us Girls. Carol McFarland is the hostess and she has a fabulous and colorful board for us and hopefully you, to be inspired by.

When I saw this challenge coming up, I decided to mimic the squares and rectangles in my design, along with adding various Christmas items.

I am also playing along with the Double D Challenge for their Stripes and or Dots Challenge.

Card Details: The die with the sectional squares is from The Greetery Curio die that I just showed you a few posts ago. The Christmas items are from Tim Holtz and are called Christmas Minis. The sentiment is from Spellbinders All Occasion Mailbox Greetings set and is half-price right now. It was foiled in a beautiful red. Then I cut it out using my favorite Notched Corner Frames from Spellbinders. This was a great layout to use up some of my scraps of DSP.

Thank You

Hello Crafty friends, It is the middle of the month and time for the next Hues of Colors at Color Hues. Jules is our wonderful hostess and she has selected a very festive color combination for us. If you are working on Christmas cards this would be the perfect opportunity for you to play along or perhaps a thank you card like I have done here.

I am playing along with the Turkey, Thanks, or Thanksgiving Challenge over at Can You Handle the Pressure.

Everyone knows how hard it is to photograph metallics but with much persistence, I managed to get a pic. As usual, we card makers, always think the cards look better in real life. This is one of those occasions.

This gorgeous 3D embossing folder called Playful Poinsettia is from Spellbinders. It also comes with a die-cut so you can take one or multiple poinsettias and make them pop, like I have done here. I used some gold ink and tried to do my very best with a medium blending brush to color some of the background. I think it’s time to get some of those smaller blending brushes that I have been seeing around. It got a tad messy in spots, hence the panel being trimmed down. I wasn’t about to scrap it. The large Scripted Thank You is also from Spellbinders and I picked it up for a few dollars a few months ago. The small poinsettia is from the Christmas Wreath Ad-Ons set. The double victorian edge was made with my old Fiskars cutter.

Merry and Bright

Hello, Crafting Friends, I am so glad you are here today!

Can you believe it’s the middle of November already and Christmas is only 6 weeks away? This year is certainly flying by. I reached my quota on Christmas cards already (which is a first) but it never hurts to get a jump start on next year. Today, as you can see, I have a Snowglobe shaker card for you using Simon’s Snow Globe Etched Dies along with a few other products listed below.

My card was inspired also by the Tic Tac Toe Challenge using 3 different combinations.

  • 1. Sequins, Diecut, Cream/Vanilla
  • 2. Sequins, Shaker, Gold Metallic
  • 3. Cream/Vanilla, Holly, Gold Metallic.

I did make some mistakes when I put this globe together, I failed to put glue behind the houses and as a result, my sequins get stuck when you shake it. The Embossing Folder in the background is also from Spellbinders and is called Sunrays.

I love using this bronze gold mirrored paper and I think it makes for a great snowglobe base.

Instead of using foam tape to achieve the depth you need for a shaker, I decided to make eight framed circles instead. This way you don’t see the foam tape when you look at it from the side. If you look closely they are not perfectly lined up but I think it is acceptable.

A Little Something to Brighten Your Day

Hello, Happy Sunday! Today I am back with a card using my Spellbinder’s Letterpress Betterpress and some Prisma Colored Pencils. This gorgeous plate was part of October’s Autumn Serenade release. The plate is called Sunflower Bouquet. It is a very large plate and I opted to not show as much of the glass vase the flowers are in to keep it A2 size this time. The plate also comes with four fabulous sentiments and matching outlines.

What I love about this plate is the amazing detail it has and how it makes coloring an absolute breeze.

I am linking up with Addicted to Stamps and More for their Make Your Mark Challenge.

Thanks or Thanksgiving

Hello, It’s Word Week at Just Us Girls and the lovely Carol Mayne has chosen Thanks and or Thanksgiving as her word this week. At this time of year, I personally start looking through all the photos I took the past year and see what I can delete to clear up some space on my computer and phone, and I came across this photo of a card that I took and never shared. Then I realized it would work perfectly for this week’s challenge…so that was a win!

Card Details: Flowers in Bloom is from MFT, heat embossed in white and then I did the smooshing technique to add the color. The banner die is also MFT and called folded Fishtail. The thanks sentiment comes in the Flowers in Bloom set. Love that font!

Now, I hope you will pop on over to Just Us Girls and check out what the team and our guest Melissa have done and play along.

Take care, Nanc’

Curio from the Greetery

Hello, Happy Friday! I am back today with a Birthday card using a mix of products but mostly 3 fabulous sets by the Greetery. These sets were gifted to me by a dear friend and fellow cardmaker and I finally took on the task of making a card with them. Now I wish I hadn’t waited so long to use them as I had a ball putting this together. I mixed a bit of Spellbinders Autumn Wonder in there as well, as I wanted the Birthday card to have a Fall vibe.

Details: There is not much to tell you about putting this card together. Basically cut out all the die cuts and added inks with blending brushes to make the images pop. Then I started with a black card base and built each window one at a time. Then when it came time to build the frame and acetate, I used another piece of 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 cardstock to guide me to keep it squared up and then adhered the acetate on the back. Added the closure and the hinges in gold mat cardstock along with my signature gold paper embellishments. The Happy Birthday fit perfectly on the tag that comes with the set. The front doesn’t open to touch the pieces inside but the cardbase opens normally.
